About Joe
Joseph Jacob holds a first-class degree in Music from the University of Uyo, Nigeria, and a postgraduate diploma degree in organ performance, from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, UK.
His musical journey began as a choir boy at age 6, where he sang in the church choir for 5 years, rising through the ranks to become the youngest chorister to be enrolled with the adult choir.
He became the church's youngest organist after just two months of keyboard and piano lessons. With the encouragements and support of his late parents and his cousin; David, Joseph will go on to take music as a professional course in the future.
A talented and exciting musician, he has won several awards during his time in Nigeria, and set a couple of benchmarks; one of such being the first and only student to stage an organ recital during his final year at the University of Uyo.
Joseph's Organ Journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Beginning as a self-taught organist, he has been privileged to be a recipient of various scholarships and financial supports which has made it possible for him to study the organ at a world-class institution under professional teachers.
So far, he has received masterclasses from world-renowned professors including Henry Fairs, Anna-Victoria Baltrusch, Nathan Laube, Erwan Le Prado and Annette Richards.
A church organist for over 15 years across two Cathedrals and two university chapels in Nigeria, Joseph is currently an organist at St Michael's & All Angels Church, South Yardley as well as assistant organist and pianist at St Andrew's Church, Handsworth.
Joseph is particularly grateful to the following foundation as well as private donors for their support throughout his programme at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire:
• The Allan and Nesta Ferguson foundation.
• The Royal College of Organist.
• The Martin Schellenberg Music Trust.
• The DMC McDonald Foundation.
• The Mary Kendall Bursary.
